2. Accessing and hosting the website (GitHub Pages)
This website is provided via GitHub Pages, a service of GitHub (GitHub, Inc. and affiliated companies). When the website is accessed, technically necessary connection data are processed so that the requested content can be delivered and the security of the service ensured. This includes in particular the IP address and technical information about the page request. GitHub expressly states that it logs and stores the IP addresses of visitors to its Pages websites for security purposes.
Purpose and legal basis: providing a functioning website and ensuring stability and IT security; legitimate interest pursuant to Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR.
Recipients: GitHub as technical hosting provider. Further information on processing by GitHub can be found in the GitHub privacy statement and the information on GitHub Pages.
Transfers to third countries: GitHub describes processing of personal data in the USA and possibly other countries outside the European Economic Area, among others. In its privacy statement, GitHub provides information on the safeguards used, in particular standard contractual clauses where applicable.
Retention: technically required log data are stored according to the rules and operational requirements of the hosting provider. The operator of this website has no control over the specific deletion periods of these log data; they are not analysed for the operator’s own visitor analysis.
3. Cookies, tracking and embedded content
Apart from the cookieless audience measurement with GoatCounter described in section 4, the website operator does not embed any analytics or advertising services, social media plugins, externally loaded web fonts or marketing cookies on this website. Images and the stylesheet are delivered as local website files; only the GoatCounter counting script is loaded externally (see section 4). The website operator does not carry out tracking for advertising purposes.
The interface functions (such as copying the email address and automatically hiding the mobile contact button) work locally in the browser. These functions do not transmit any content to the website operator and do not set any cookies of their own or create comparable persistent storage.
The hosting provider’s own information additionally applies to the purely technically necessary processing by the hosting provider. Should further services be added to the website in future, this privacy policy and any required consent settings will be updated beforehand.
4. Audience measurement with GoatCounter
To find out how often this website and its individual pages are accessed, the web analytics service GoatCounter is used. The provider is Martin Tournoij, Ireland (www.goatcounter.com). When a page is accessed, your browser loads a small counting script from GoatCounter’s servers and, for technical reasons, transmits your IP address and information about the page request.
Data processed: page visited, referrer (the page from which you reached this website), browser and operating system (derived from the information sent by the browser), screen width, language setting and the approximate country or region of origin derived from the IP address. According to GoatCounter, only the resulting values (for example “Firefox” or “Germany”) are stored in aggregated form per hour or day, but not the IP address, the full browser identifier (user agent) or a tracking ID. The individual attributes are counted separately and cannot be linked to each other or to a specific person. To detect repeat visits, GoatCounter keeps a mapping of website, IP address and browser identifier to a random identifier for a maximum of eight hours, exclusively in memory; this mapping is not stored in the database. The optional recording of individual page views is not enabled.
No cookies: GoatCounter does not set cookies and does not store any information in your browser or device, including local storage or cache. Recognition across multiple visits or websites and the creation of usage profiles do not take place. As no information is stored on your device, no consent under § 25(1) of the German Telecommunications Digital Services Data Protection Act (TDDDG) is obtained for audience measurement.
Purpose and legal basis: determining visitor numbers and the origin of visits in aggregated, anonymous form in order to develop the website according to need; legitimate interest pursuant to Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR.
Recipients and storage location: according to GoatCounter, no data are passed on to third parties. The data are stored on servers of Hetzner Online GmbH in Finland and Germany; to that extent, no transfer to third countries outside the European Economic Area takes place.
Retention: the aggregated statistics contain no personal data and are stored for as long as the statistics account exists. They are removed when the account is deleted; according to GoatCounter, backups may persist for up to 30 days.
Objection: you can object to audience measurement at any time, for example by using a content or tracking blocker in your browser or by disabling JavaScript; the counting script will then not run. Further information can be found in GoatCounter’s privacy information.
5. Contact by email or phone
If you contact us by email or phone, the information you provide (for example name, contact details, property details and the content of your enquiry) is used to process and answer your enquiry. Providing this information is voluntary. Without contact details, a reply may not be possible.
Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR insofar as it concerns steps taken at your request prior to entering into a possible contract; in other cases Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR based on the legitimate interest in handling incoming enquiries and communicating with interested parties.
Email service: a mailbox at STRATO GmbH, Otto-Ostrowski-Straße 7, 10249 Berlin, Germany, is used for email communication. The contact address kontakt@drwachtel.de is assigned to this mailbox as an alias. To provide, receive and send emails, STRATO processes the necessary communication data and message content. According to STRATO, mailbox data are stored in German data centres. An email application on the operator’s own device is currently also used to retrieve and send emails. Information on data processing by STRATO can be found in STRATO’s privacy information. Depending on the sender’s or recipient’s email provider, further email service providers may also be involved in the exchange.
Retention: enquiries are generally deleted as soon as they have been dealt with and are no longer needed for communication or to safeguard legitimate interests. Where statutory retention obligations apply or claims need to be asserted or defended, data may be kept for correspondingly longer.
6. Recipients and disclosure
Personal data are not sold or transferred to third parties for advertising purposes. They are processed only by the technical service providers named above in the context of providing the website and handling enquiries, and may be disclosed where there is a legal obligation to do so.
7. Your rights
Subject to the statutory requirements, you have in particular the right of access (Art. 15 GDPR), rectification (Art. 16 GDPR), erasure (Art. 17 GDPR), restriction of processing (Art. 18 GDPR), data portability (Art. 20 GDPR) and to object to processing based on Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (Art. 21 GDPR).
To exercise these rights, you can contact the controller using the contact details above. Objecting to processing based on legitimate interests is generally possible on grounds relating to your particular situation.
8. Right to lodge a complaint
You have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority (Art. 77 GDPR). For Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, the competent authority is in particular:
Der Landesbeauftragte für Datenschutz und Informationsfreiheit Mecklenburg-Vorpommern (State Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information)
Werderstraße 74a
19055 Schwerin, Germany
Email: info@datenschutz-mv.de

9. Updates
This privacy policy describes the current technical state of the website. It will be updated in the event of changes to hosting, email service, functions used or the type of data processing.
